Sustainability Report 2023

For the third time, mac. brand spaces, the specialist in live communication, has published a sustainability report. “Sustainability is on everyone’s lips and is becoming a competitive factor. For our 2022 Sustainability Report, we have received even more recognition and positive feedback than for its predecessor,” says mac CEO Stefan Trieb. The new Sustainability Report outlines the ongoing and planned measures of the company.

As the demand for sustainability consulting continues to grow, mac has strengthened its capacities and consolidated them in its new team “sustainable. brand spaces.” “Five full-time employees address ESG issues in our company and provide comprehensive support to clients in the sustainable realization of their projects. By having a dedicated team, we consolidate the necessary know-how to work effectively and cover all essential aspects of the task,” says Trieb. The team works in advisory sales project management, designs and facilitates workshops, calculates CO2 balances, and engages in material studies as well as procedural and constructive improvements to enhance the carbon footprint of projects and operational processes.

mac is once again taking a pioneering step and aims to further expand its leadership role in the industry. The company plans to complete its ISO 20121 certification by November. “The decision to implement a sustainability management system according to ISO 20121 and to become certified will continuously elevate mac to a new level. This is another milestone for me in my 18 years of advancing sustainability at mac, and I am proud of it,” says Tobias Mannhold, Head of Building Services & CSR Officer.

mac not only thinks sustainably but also acts sustainably in ecological, social, and economic terms. “When it comes to sustainable actions in the social sphere, our first focus is on our employees. They are the reason for our daily success,” says Trieb. As part of employee participation in company decision-making, they are involved in significant entrepreneurial decisions. Training and development, as well as health management, are other important aspects. This year, the company will achieve certification as a healthy company by the AOK (German health insurance provider).

The carbon footprint continues to be steadily reduced. “Our goal is to operate entirely carbon-neutral by 2030,” says Trieb. The new photovoltaic system is expected to cover 30% of mac’s electricity consumption in the future. Another aspect is mobility. Out of a total of 48 company vehicles, one-third is already partially or fully electric. No more combustion engine vehicles will be procured after the end of 2025. Additionally, over ten percent of the workforce has obtained a job bike through mac via bike leasing, which they use, among other things, for their commute.

From an economic perspective, 2022 was also a successful year. “Since April 2022, we have exceeded the comparative turnover of the pre-crisis year 2019 every month,” says Trieb. “This has been beneficial for us, as it has underscored the demand for our services.”
